Just spent 4 nights on serviced pitch. Great site, excellent pitch and fantastic shower block (like the heated floor!). Site very clean and tidy. Good children's play area. Will definitely come again.
Excellent in every way
On arrival at the campsite we received a warm and helpful welcome. We were escorted to our pitch, which was huge with electric hook up, and given instructions on where to best place our trailer tent.
It was a sloping pitch right by the fishing lake, with a lovely view across the lake. We were advised to pitch the trailer tent with the hitch facing outwards in case we needed to be towed off the pitch (a bad weather precaution). We experienced terrible weather over the coming week but the pitch did not flood at all. The camp site is on top of a hill so gets the brunt of the weather coming off the Atlantic. You need to use strong pegs with the guy ropes!
The facilities on the site were excellent in every way - underfloor heating in the showers which was luxurious. The take away was a welcome distraction from the weather with an extensive menu. The fishing lake is very picturesque but you will need to purchase a permit to fish. Note: these are checked randomly every day.
The site is very well kept. It was full most of the time we were there and at no time did the facilities become unkempt. The site is about a mile out of Mortehoe and just behind Woolacombe. Not really within safe walking distance anywhere, although you can access the coastal path from the back of the camp site. Plenty of places to eat nearby (short drive).
The beach at Woolacombe is huge and tends to get really busy. The beach at Croyde (approx 6 miles down the coast) is much smaller with excellent surfing. Ilfracombe is about 4 miles and has a cinema, shops, restaurants and nice harbour area.
I'd go again but not with a tent of any sort - all that flapping canvas! Didn't seem to matter how tightly we guyed it down it was still making a racket. Didn't last the 10 days we had booked, came home after 6.
