The Tarka Trail

A small section of the Tarka Trail runs from near the Fortescue Arms; just 0.6m from Warcombe Camping Park, down to Ilfracombe, along the old Victorian railway line.

The Tarka Trail proper, runs from Braunton, through Barnstaple, Instow, Bideford, Great Torrington and finally on to Meeth. Meeth is a small village roughly 8.5 miles north-northwest of Okehampton and 25 miles west-northwest of Exeter. It lies to the west of the River Torridge. The Tarka Trail runs over 32 miles.

Cycling is easy on the legs, traffic free and surfaced throughout, along estuary sides and through wooded valleys.

Known as the Tarka Cycle Trail as it follows the journey of Tarka the Otter in the classic tale written by Henry Williamson.
